Animal cruelty in Canada?

I've seen many many disturbing videos on farm animal cruelty regarding cows, pork, chicken. My question is, does every slaughterhouse and industrial farm torture the animals? Or are the videos we see just one in a million? Is it illegal, for example, to tie a beef's head, making it unable to move, and twist it's tail and break it off? My questions are mostly for canadian farms and slaughterhouses.
